Monika Dec

I’m an integrative counsellor accredited by NCPS. I trained as a psychotherapist in London having previously graduated in philosophy and pedagogy. I have over a decade of experience working as a therapist with a wide range of presentations, such as anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties. My experience includes both the charity and private sectors. Since 2016 I have been involved with MECS where I work with international clients. Since 2011 I have been working with people experiencing more enduring difficulties such as psychosis and personality disorder. I have two years of work experience providing counselling and conducting psychological screening assessments for members of the police force.

In my work I mainly use psychodynamic theory to explore relationship patterns. I also use methods such as gestalt (e.g. enhancing an awareness of your needs and bodily sensations), CBT (e.g. recognising the relationship between emotions, thoughts and behaviours) and art therapy (working with drawing).

With a background in philosophy and teaching, I bring a unique perspective to our sessions. The experience of having worked with people from diverse cultural and social contexts enriches my practice and allows me to offer tailored support which respects your individuality. I work by creating a safe environment for you to open up and talk about the difficulties that disrupt your life. I will help you put your difficulties into perspective, better understand yourself and to build more satisfying relationships with yourself and others.

Specialties:

trauma, depression, anxiety, relationships, couples therapy, positive psychology/happiness
